Alaina Gassler, 9th Grade,
Wins Top Award at
Broadcom MASTERS Competition!

We've been following Alaina Gassler since we found out on September 5th that she had placed in the top 300 of the Broadcom MASTERS®, the nation's premier science and engineering competition, for her 8th grade project submission. From there, she proceeded to the Top 30 Finalists, which is an incredible accomplishment.

On October 29th, Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science & the Public announced that Alaina had WON the coveted $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize, the TOP AWARD in the Broadcom MASTERS®!

In fact, the top five winners were all girls! A first for the competition.

Ms. Gassler's invention was a solution to eliminate A-pillar blind spots for cars - an issue that's plagued auto manufacturers and safety experts for decades. "There are so many car accidents and injuries and deaths that could've been prevented from a pillar not being there," Gassler said in her Society for Science video. "And since we can't take it off cars, I decided to get rid of it without getting rid of it."

Alaina's outstanding accomplishment has gained the attention of countless international media outlets!! Here are a few links to articles, for the full story:
